Bought myself a treat I haven’t had in a while, an issue of Real Simple<\/span><\/a> magazine. I love this mag, but I’m already drowning in paper, so I’ve cut down on subscriptions. There’s something about Real Simple<\/span> I’ve always been drawn to. Perhaps its the lovely white space, or the photos, or the fact that it doesn’t make you feel like you’re completely helpless because you don’t already have an up to date wardrobe, a perfect dinner party plan, a House Beautiful<\/span> interior, or engage in red-hot Chinese basket trick sex every other night of the week.<\/p>\n

The back page of the magazine is now a feature that introduces a Real Simple<\/span> reader, but the questions were fun. So, here are my answers. What are yours?<\/p>\n

What makes you laugh?<\/span>
If my children are tickled about something, I’m tickled, too. Their laughter is infectious!<\/p>\n

What’s the one thing about your younger self that you’d like to reclaim?<\/span>
Upper arm tone. That, and the belief that I could teach myself to do anything by reading a book about it. (Don’t laugh–I taught myself how to ride a horse that way!)<\/p>\n

What are you really good at?<\/span>
Editing. Boring, but true. I also make fabulous lasagna and can tell jokes well.<\/p>\n

Who was your favorite teacher and why?<\/span>
Mrs. Dempsey, sophomore gifted English. She taught me how to write really fast in all capital letters (came in really handy in college) and how to make peace with the fact that I was a smart girl.<\/p>\n

Before I die, I’d like to…<\/span>
Visit all the countries of my ancestry. I toured Scotland on my honeymoon. Now I have to plan for Ireland, France, Switzerland, and the Azores Islands.<\/p>\n

What’s your favorite book?<\/span>
I love, love, love Mark Helprin’s Winter’s Tale<\/span>. My favorite children’s books are Go, Dog, Go!<\/span> and The Phantom Tollbooth<\/span>.<\/p>\n

John, Paul, George, or Ringo?<\/span>
Mick. Stones over Beatles every time.<\/p>\n

The big decision I’m currently wrestling with is…<\/span>
What to throw out. I really, really need to muck out my house, and it’s really hard because I am so sentimental!
